Spring Creek Greenway Nature Center (located near old Town Spring)
http://www.springcreekgreenway.org/naturecenter.htm
Recently during a July nature center visit, even with the heavy rains, this is what I found blooming, buzzing and bouncing around the gardens. In order to really observe what is going on in a garden, take a slow paced visit and see how many things you can observe. You might not know what the flower, insect or animal is, but that is part of the excitement of getting outside and discovering new things.
Enjoy and if you happen to know the name of the plant species or animal or special story, please post a comment so that others reading this blog can learn.
If you see anything that should be corrected so the information here is more accurate, don't hesitate to post a clarification or suggestion.
Thanks!!!!

Brazos Bend State Park - home of the American Alligator
Photos from my recent trip to Brazos Bend State park near Houston, Texas. I was delighted to find American Alligators, at least 10 basking under the partly sunny sky. I was NOT delighted to see the effects the Texas drought has had on the lake. However, still enjoy your photo trip to some of the sites of Brazos Bend State Park which is operated by Texas Parks and Wildlife.
See American Alligators and the habitat which they need to survive. What do you think the Texas drought is having on the American Alligator? Do you think they like rain? How can the quality of water affect the health and survival of the American Alligator?
Caught a photo with an alligator with his mouth wide open? Why do you think the alligator is doing this?
The alligator has now closed it's mouth? Why do you think the alligator did this?
I thought the water was beautiful with the ripples? What can cause the water to look like this?
More habitat from the lake. If you make a visit to Brazos Bend State Park, this is 40-acre lake.
Normally this area is all water. Look how much the drought has affected the lake. Can anything survive in a dry lake?
A view from the pier. If you look closely you can see dry places in the lake.
Here is a smaller alligator? Much smaller than the alligator which was out of the water. Can you look at an alligator and tell its age or sex? If we looked closer in the lake, what other life would we expect to see there?

Photos of Nature
A downy woodpecker finding and eating insects in small tree. I heard some strange tapping and thought a neighbor was hitting something over and over with a small hammer. Finally, I moved under bush, continued hearing the sound and spotted the little bird. The bird was so intent in getting it's food that it didn't mind me snapping several photos.
An injured Bald Eagle being rehabilitated. Unfortunately the bird's wing is too damaged for release back into the wild. So, the bird will be cared for and used to educate children and adults about bald eagles.
A squirrel gathering food for the winter.
Very cool fungus. Fungus plays a very important role in keeping a habitat and nature healthy. Can you think what it's purpose is?
A wild bald eagle flying high overhead. The birds are huge and they fly so high they become small dots and have to be viewed with a good set of binoculars. Eagles were endangered and have made great progess coming back. It is becoming more common in the correct habitat to see bald eagles.
